Benefits of Yoga in the workplace
Due to COVID-19, most people are either working entirely from home or a hybrid of work and home. We are seeing that the line between the two is becoming more blurred from having to create a workplace at home and having to also support perhaps more responsibilities with family in the household.
Something that has become apparent from this work from home transition is the increased stress of trying to maintain good communication with coworkers and the strain on the body from getting out of healthy routines, moving less, and being in makeshift home workspaces.
This is why a corporate wellness program is more important now than ever before. Besides supporting the overall health and wellness of employees, an effective program can support a workplace in some surprising ways!
Better Customer Service - Yoga can provide a feeling of recharging the batteries, and you know what that leads to? Better customer service!
Less Sick Days - Supporting employees with Corporate Yoga leads to a decline in stress-related sick occurrences.
Increased Focus - Instead of reaching for that next coffee refill (and coffee-jitters), yoga can improve employee alertness with a calm focus in even the most demanding of jobs.
Better Decision Making Skills - Yoga is a moving meditation that improves concentration, which leads to better decision-making skills.
Confidence - Methodical and energizing movement brings a sense of empowerment to employees while de-stressing the body, all-powerful tools in gaining self-confidence.
Posture - Yoga allows us to realign our posture and relieves tension.
Morale - Employees who are seasoned or beginner yogis appreciate a permission-granted pause to the work-day. This enhances employee attitude and outlook on valuing their employer.
Insomnia - Yoga reduces stress and emphasizes breathing, two things key for better sleep.
More Productivity - Less time spent coming into the office and more time sitting could lead to less overall energy. It doesn’t take a full hour of yoga to get employees full of energy which leads to more productivity!
Better Breathing - Focus on the breath, allows you to take deep full breaths, renewing oxygen in the body, and enhancing focus and clarity of the present moment.
Avoid Burn-Out - Given the demands of COVID, employees may have less time to exercise in the day due to taking care of family, home-schooling, or any other numerous reasons. Supporting their well-being on the clock supports general well-being in the workplace (even if virtually) and that reduces employee turnover, (prevent the burn-out!)
Reduce High blood pressure - Yoga is a natural way to control hypertension and reduce high blood pressure.
Reduce Neck and Back Strain - With employees creating make-shift offices in their homes, we know that the same ergonomic furniture that support may not be available, leading to neck and back strain. There are simple stretches that offer support for these areas that can be done in less than 5-minutes!
Reduce Carpal tunnel - Stretching in yoga is known to relieve compression in the carpal tunnel.
Boost Mood - Yoga is known to boost mood by increasing your oxytocin and serotonin levels, get the blood flowing, all while bringing all of your awareness to the present moment.
