Why I turned to yoga through pregnancy

Yoga through pregnancy was definitely not
something I always wanted to do.

So what kept me coming back?

On days I was moody (which often happened for me through pregnancy with all the hormonal changes), yoga was most beneficial in taking my mind off my mood or whatever was putting me in that mood.

Honestly, sometimes I would spend the whole practice thinking about what I was upset about or how I didn’t feel well or that I didn’t want to do yoga. But I did notice even if it was a SMALL shift, I always felt a little bit better after.

When I am moving, I notice that just creating some form of ACTION is extremely beneficial for me, even when I don’t want to do it.  Movement has such strong effects on the body, that also effects your mind. Movement can soothe the nervous system, creating a shift in body and brain chemistry, enhancing your mood. Even a few minutes of yoga can benefit us greatly!

On lovely light and joyous days (my second trimester felt pretty heavenly a lot of the time!), the breath to movement increased my joy and made me feel more energetic and open to the rest of my day.

I find with yoga and ESPECIALLY meditation that it feels like a recharge and increases my ability to be my best self throughout the day.

Knowing what is best for my body (even if my mind is saying otherwise) has been key to my happiness.

What works best for you to keep your body happy and mind at ease?
